His Hands Ministries

His Hands Ministries, a faith based community volunteer project, will be occurring July 24-28, 2006. This project helps revitalize Lawrence County and families in need. His Hands is currently in its third year of operation and has helped 76 families.

What is His Hands? His Hands is a faith based initiative in which local churches come together to assist those in need through a variety of various repairs and maintenance to local properties. During the His Hands week, volunteers help aid local members of the community with household needs, which include; wall washing, interior/exterior painting, basic renovation, roof work and other general household repairs.

If you are interested in learning more about His Hands or would like to get involved, please contact Marlene DiCristoforo at 724-658-7258.

LCCAP Housing Department offers 'New Options' Program

New Options is a relatively new program at LCCAP. Funded by the Department of Housing Urban Development (HUD), New Options is a permanent housing program for chronically homeless individuals with substance abuse histories. New Options is able to serve eight participants at a time, providing housing opportunities bundled with intensive case management services. In order to be eligible for the program, participants must demonstrate that that they have been homeless for longer than one year or have had four episodes of homelessness in the past three years, provide proof of a substance abuse disorder, and proof of enrollment in a substance abuse treatment program. Each participant of New Options is expected to be working, going to school or volunteering while a part of the program.

Case managers work very closely with participants in meeting their individual goals, which include: employment, budgeting, life skills, child care, transportation, education, mental health services, and sobriety. Currently, New Options has two openings. Interested persons should contact the Housing Department at 724-658-7258 for more information.
