Childcare Transportation Program

Through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, ACTS is available to transport school-aged children (Kindergarten through Grade 6) between their childcare provider and school. The goal of this program is to reduce transportation barriers for low-income working families. Since the child is able to be transported between their childcare provider and their school, the parents are able to focus on their employment throughout the day instead of having to leave work to transport their child.

Passenger Cost:

  • Children passengers ride for $1.00 per trip. The parents pre-pay the $1.00 fare to the ACTS Office to avoid the children having to carry money.

Requirements:

  • Child must be enrolled in a licensed childcare provider as identified by CCIS.
  • The child must be part of a household whose annual income is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For a family of 4, the annual income can be up to approximately $55,500 per year to qualify.
  • The parent must be working at least 20 hours per week.
  • While children are enrolled in the Childcare Transportation Program, the parents may qualify for other employment transportation services and programs.
  • Family enrollment maximum in this program is 12 months from date of enrollment or if they reach the maximum spending allowance of $8,000.
  • You must be in the Service Area of Allied Coordinated Transportation Services, Inc. (Lawrence County, PA and nearby).

Trip Restrictions:

  • Children passengers may only ride to school from their childcare provider or to their childcare provider from their school. This program cannot replace current school bus services provided through the child’s school district.
  • For families living outside of the New Castle Area School District, contact the ACTS Customer Service Department to determine if your child’s school is serviced through this program.
