Utility Assistance

Case managers are able to assist families in applying for Dollar Energy funds to prevent the termination or restore service of utility services. Dollar Energy provides a onetime grant of up to $500 for eligible households toward their Columbia Gas, Dominion Peoples, Penn Power or Pennsylvania American Water bill.
Case managers also meet with households to review their budgets, and address any underlying causes of their utility crisis. Case managers advise households on available services, make referrals, and establish goal plans.

General Services Provided:
• Compilation and Submission of Dollar Energy application.
• General Case Management.
• Financial Literacy Counseling.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Termination notice or cessation of utility services (requirement changes depending on time of year and funding available).
• Income not exceeding 200% of the federal poverty guideline.
• Sincere Effort of Payment (applicants must have paid at least $150 on their gas and electric accounts in the last 90 days. Senior Citizens, age 62 and over, must have paid at least $100 on their gas and electric accounts in the last 90 days. Applicants must have paid at least $100 on their water accounts in the last 90 days. Senior Citizens, age 62 and over, must have paid at least $50 on their water accounts in the last 90 days.
