This is a friendly reminder that on Friday, October 6, 2023, the Lawrence County Stand Down Committee is holding the 13th annual Stand Down event at Cascade Park, 1928 E. What is Stand Down?
In times of war exhausted combat units requiring time to rest and recover were removed from the battlefields to a place of security and safety. Today “Stand Down” refers to a community-based intervention program designed to provide homeless vets access to community resources needed in rebuilding their lives. Our homeless vets, service members and their families (as well as homeless civilians and the general public) will be able to receive:
• Health Screenings
• Hair Cuts (Free for Veterans and Service Members!)
• Hygiene products
• Information and referrals on community resources
• Free lunch (for Veterans and Military Service Members only)
• Military Surplus (for Veterans and Military Service Members only)
For veteran provisions proof of service will be required. Don’t have it? Ask at registration we may be able to help!
Happening again this year:
• Drive through service to pick up boxed donations and vendor materials
• Proof of service required for haircuts, free lunch and military surplus
• Basic Health Screenings, military surplus, and haircuts to be offered in dance hall
• While the general public is welcome donations and services are limited and will be offered for veterans and military members first
o Wait times for services and donations may vary and supplies are limited.
How you may be able to help:
If you or someone you know would like to donate your time to help with the event, food, new clothing/ blankets, boots, toiletries, monetary donations of any kind (These donations will help provide food, clothing, medical care, and needed supplies during our Stand Down event) reply to this email or contact Missy Russell at mrussell@lccap.org 724.658.7258 x1414.
