Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Tax season is upon us and our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site officially opens Thursday, February 1st!

Due to limited volunteers, we can only guarantee the first 300 individuals will be served. After the initial threshold is reached, others may be denied. Only Lawrence County households earning under $60,000 AND those who file a simple return are eligible to receive this free service. Please note: if you are only filing for a PA property tax rent rebate, requests will be processed at Rep. Marla Brown’s office starting in February.

If you meet these guidelines, you are invited to pick up an application packet at 241 W. Grant Street, New Castle, PA 16101 starting Monday, January 22, 2024 between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. The packet will include a list of all necessary items and documents needed to complete your tax filing.

Once you pick up your packet, you will be instructed as to when your packet will need to be completed and returned. Once you return a completed packet, you will be scheduled for an in-person appointment to have your taxes prepared by one of our volunteers. Remember, this free service is first come, first served.
